Bertrand Tremaux

Bertrand Tremaux is Charles' bodyguard. His family is of lesser nobility with a medium sized keep and several farms in Brittany. Tremaux worked very hard to archive his place amongst the more high-born Knights in Charles' service. He's generally looked down on by most of Charles' retinue, though well regarded by Joseph Dupuis who brought him into the King's inner circle.
When ordered to take the mysterious book to Lyon in the company of common foot soldiers, Bertrand at fist objects believing his duty is to be with his King, and also that the task is beneath his station. He is, however, a loyal servant and agrees to escort the party.
Tremaux is a good fighter but is clearly rattled by the strange events he has witnessed on the journey. His primary motivation is to deliver the chest to Bishop Jacquinot and return to Charles' camp.
